Lesson from NIKE RUN

Last month, I went to NIKE RUN 2012
There are few things I observe from this event:

1. FINISHER T-SHIRT
I love the idea they give Finisher T-shirt for those who can successfully complete the 10 KM run in 2 hours. It become a kind of motivation to all runners and make us have a stronger determination to complete our task. It's really useful to me because I have set my target before my run .
I guess other runners also have same thinking with me due to this reason. :)

2. PERFORMANCES AT THE END POINT
The Nike organizer has prepared some great performances at the end point.
It's like a small concert because  dancing and singing performance were prepared
to make all the runners enjoy after run.

Two observations on the above told me that people can be satisfied in simple way.
And we can apply this theory on our business too.
By giving some incentives like giving discount card to our member,
having lucky draw and etc can gain the loyalty from customers.
As I said, people is clever and easy to be satisfied.
After they gained some benefits, they choose the one which will advantage them in the future.
When more and more customers come to us means our business will become bigger and bigger

So,do you think it's easy to start your own business?

My answer is NO!

Unless you have enough of courage to step out from your comfort zone, creative ideas
and the most important component is to have

 AWESOME PARTNERS!!!

DARE TO DREAM, DARE TO TRY, DARE TO FAIL, DARE TO SUCCESS

Reflection

I had learnt that we need to find many problems based on the WH questions. This is important to further improve our business yet to face many complains of other people later. We need to identify what is the biggest problem, then we need to find the root cause by asking why question and lastly find possible solution for the root cause of problem.

Short lesson in CHOIR practice

During choir practice,
our choir seniors always tell us to sing louder towards the end,

UNFORTUNATELY... ...
what we actually did is sing "softer" towards the end,
this is due to not enough "gas" for us to sing with one breath,
SO,
we have to sing even louder than what we sing usual so as to maintain the loudness,

AND
this is where we learn to stagger,
where different people breath in quietly in different time,
so as to maintain the "gas" and also "loudness"...
I believe that we are able to do this BECAUSE
We did this in a group of Aw2some people~ =D

ALSO

I truly believe that this concept can be applied in each and every single little case in our daily life...
We often start of something full with energetic,
but when things go on,
we tend to become relax and become lazy,

NOW we are lucky enough to have a group of aw2some people gather together,
so lets remind each other to "maintain" our energy level
TOWARDS THE END!! =D

Refection of the Day (17/10)

Another interesting class conducted by Mr. Bernard.

Mr. Bernard started the class by refreshing what he had taught us in the previous class. He is then asked volunteer to come out and present on the industries that we identified and how can we solve it.

The first thing came into my mind was
VOLUNTEER?!?!
"Oh yeah... I am so going to talk in front!" That was what I told myself. Then, something struck me,
WHAT SHOULD I TALK ABOUT???
All the ideas are scattered in my mind, how should I classify it and which one should I present. I started to list down all the problems that Shirleyn, Chee thong and me identified, not to forget the other team members who work together with us as well.

"Who want to be the next???"
*Put up my hand*
I was a little bit late but I still get to present the problem that we identified.
And the most exciting part of it is, I am the only person who have been questioned a lot by my coursemates. At the moment, I was thinking,
"Why are you guys only throw those questions to me and not the other presenters?"

After some explanations by Mr. Bernard, I came out with my own statement where questioning is the first key that may realise our idea because it trigger us to think in depth. What does questioning means then??

As quoted from Mr. Bernard,
"The first step to solve a problem is to identify the root cause of the problem."

I guess that still haven't answer the question directly. From that statement, we know that if we wanted to know more about something, then we MUST dig out the true/real problem of it by using the
"Why-Why-Why Analysis"

To know more about the "Why-Why-Why Analysis", you may check out the link below:

"Problems? We love you!"

In the upcoming posts, we will introduce you more on the industries that we have identified and the problems of it.

BGF Food and Fun Fair

I went to BGF Food & Fun Fair on the previous Sunday as a volunteer. It was held in SJK (C) Yuk Chai.

What can I learn from a carnival-based event or it is also can be said as a canteen day?
Oh well... I think the most important think will be the attention. How can the organizer ensure that those who can for the event can stay a little longer?? It is actually by getting their attention. Throughout the whole event, there was activities and performances going on and it was conducted according to the suitability of ages.

This trigger me to think. When we try to promote or sell something, what we really need is to gain the consumers interest and of course it should engaged to more people. But, the problem now is,
HOW???

It is actually by finding the root cause.
Want to know more, check out our next post.

Reflection

We have to figure out problem that we see everyday in our daily life or maybe something beyond that and try to find the cause and effect and most of all thing of how to solve them.
Like there’s some of them stood in front and explain about their problem, I felt finding a problem that is relevant for us to think and solve is not that easy. Especially in doing business. There’s actually so many out there who has the same idea as we have that we thought people would never thought of it.

In love with business

I like business because it is competitive, because it rewards deeds rather than words.

I like business because it compels earnestness and does not permit me to neglect today’s task while thinking about tomorrow.

I like business because it undertakes to please, not reform; because it is honestly selfish, thereby avoiding hypocrisy and sentimentality.

I like business because it promptly penalizes mistakes, shiftlessness and inefficiency, while rewarding well those who give it the best they have in them.

Lastly, I like business because each day is a fresh adventure.

Good? Simple? Awesome?

In the very first class. which is conducted by our mentor Mr. Bernard, I had learnt a new concept,
  GOOD PROBLEM
  SIMPLE IDEA
  AWESOME PEOPLE
  • GOOD PROBLEM
We should always identify our problem before we have an idea or solution, (i.e. We are required to create a blog and keep posting on the blog, "no photo with your girlfriend and boyfriend is allowed and no candle light dinner story is allowed", said Mr Bernard, so, what should we post?)
  • SIMPLE IDEA
So, with the problem above, our group had come out with an idea, where members in our group take turns to post something that they can think off, Without a problem, we might not know what is the purpose of an idea for, (i.e. what we learnt in class, good problem -> simple idea -> awesome people)
  • AWESOME PEOPLE
Thus, our problem is solved with the cooperation of a bunch of awesome people. =)

 Task 1 completed ^_^

First Class of APK2.0

Here's what I thought~

I think that the class was so unique and it really had caught my attention for the 2 hours of lecture. MR. BERNARD, one of the best presenter that I met. His communication skill was good with eye contact, interaction between the audience and sense of humour I think, perhaps?

So, here's what we did~

IQ test? Which is the most interesting part was the and the only bad thing about it was there is only a few question. =)

and, here's what I found~

"Being a entrepreneur was not equal to be entrepreneurial" somehow I still can understand this sentence and if translated into my own word that will be "learning APK does not mean you must/will open your own business in the future, these knowledge is useful even you are in the science stream and so on~"

Thus, here's what we are going to do next~

Identify three industries and discuss about the problem that they are facing then try to give a possible solution. Who? What? Why?

Donation Drive

I went for a donation drive with another club for one of the events I joint. One very important principle that I always hold on is we should never stop trying. This principle is very important especially for today's donation drive. We wouldn't know what happen when we enter the next shop.

With this principle, we able to get a lot of items. =D As our aim today is to get in-kind sponsorship and the results are surprisingly GOOD!!!

In conclusion,

We should always try to fail,

but never fail to try.
